EventIf the name “The Rashita Joneses” brings to mind only the magnetic Parks And Recreation actress (spelled “Rashida,”) and not, say, an up-and-coming garage-psych band, you shouldn’t feel bad. The misspelled Milwaukee three-piece is less than a year old and has logged just a few shows at places like The Up & Under and its defunct southern counterpart, The Down & Over. That may change, however, with the recent release of a self-titled EP and a grungy video for its buzzy, infectious, stoner-rific first single, “Mosquito.” The clip has everything you’d expect from a young psych band: a fisheye lens, smoke, black lights, tracers, barfing, smoke, pissing, smoke, and an old-school telephone used as a microphone.
Trophy Dad, a pop-rock band based in Madison, started in the fortuitous way many college bands do: in a dorm hallway, after a conversation about favorite records. The young band plays '90s bedroom pop-inspired tunes. They released their debut EP, "Shirtless Algebra Fridays," earlier last year.
