Axis Sova

(Chicago, Illinois)
Genre: Alt-Pop, Psych, Psych Rock
Since 2015, Chicago’s Axis: Sova has morphed and mutated in size and sound across a string of albums for God?/Drag City. Originally a solo guitar noise n’ drum machine project for Brett Sova, A:S rounded into form as a 3-piece power unit a few years back with Jeremy Freeze on bass, and now includes Josh Johannpeter on drums in addition to their array of drum machines, keeping things at once lively and motorik. Their pop-sense crystalizing over and over throughout their evolution, it’s continuously shattered by propulsive blasts of psyched-up post-punk and hook-laden, six-string heroics.
Chicago’s Axis: Sova hit the beaches of southern California with Ty Segall to make a total hi-fi classic. Often feral and consistently catchy, Blinded By Oblivion is lit up with interlocking drum kit + drum machine, adventuresome guitar, bass, and harmonic vocals on every song. Icy lyrical perspectives, rendered in a sunshiny natural paradise, transmit the fun and fraud of human polarities with urgency and an occasional eye roll. PLAY LOUD.
