Sarah Shook & the Disarmers

(Chapel Hill, NC)
Genre: Americana

It’s obvious listening to Sarah Shook and the Disarmers’ clear-eyed, biting, and unafraid songs that integrity is the most important thing to the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, country-punk outfit. “A lot of artists are in this industry for fame, recognition, and money but those things don’t mean anything to me,” says bandleader River Shook. “Songwriting is it for me. It’s the only real healthy coping mechanism I’ve ever had. It’s life-saving. I don’t care about any superficial things when I’m making a record.” On their resonant fourth album Revelations, produced by Shook and out March 29 via Thirty Tigers, these raw and resilient tracks come first. Throughout, Shook’s deft storytelling documents regular people getting by and keeping on, all presented without filter or pretension.

Carson McHone

(Austin, TX)
Genre: Americana

Carson McHone is a songwriter from Austin, Texas. Her new LP, produced by prolific Canadian musician Daniel Romano, is set to be released in early 2022 on Merge Records in the US, and Loose Music in the UK and Europe. McHone’s last album, Carousel (Nine Mile Records/Loose Music), produced by Austin music scene veteran Mike McCarthy (known for his close partnership with Spoon as well as albums by Trail Of Dead, Patty Griffin, Heartless Bastards, and more), was selected by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the “Best Country and Americana Albums of 2018”.

Ladybird

(Milwaukee, WI)
Genre: Americana

The saying goes that on every block in the Midwest, there’s one bar and one church. If you tie one on too tight, you don’t have far to go to find a place that’s supposed to forgive you for all your sinning. The songs of Milwaukee-based Ladybird live somewhere on that block—on the long, cold walk between the high times at the tavern with your friends and the shadow of the steeple that reminds you of tomorrow’s responsibilities and yesterday’s mistakes. The band’s second full length album, Clementine, is due on October 10.
