DESCRIPTION:
Join us on Wednesday, January 3rd at 5:30 for our next Cactus Book Club(CBC). This month’s featured organization is Ping Pong Book Club—the first time another book club will be leading our discussion! We’ll read Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion by Jia Tolentino. This critically acclaimed collection of essays “is an enlightening, unforgettable trip through the river of self-delusion that surges just beneath the surface of our lives. This is a book about the incentives that shape us, and about how hard it is to see ourselves clearly through a culture that revolves around the self”

Recommended bookseller: Woodland Pattern

The Ping Pong Book Club meets bi-weekly at Woodland Pattern. They invite Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) people to read together in an environment of solace and nourishment—to connect and share in conversation through literature, especially during times of distress. Their goal is to exchange thoughts, experiences and feelings among one another, a back-and-forth, like table tennis, or simply ping pong. The reading material focuses on fiction, nonfiction literature, and poetry by female, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ writers. Learn how about how to join their book club at: Instagram @pingpongbookclub or https://woodlandpattern.org/events/reading-group-ping-pong-book-club-in-person-sept-2023

(While the Ping Pong Book Club is for AAPI folks, the event at Cactus is open to everyone)

Cactus Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30 at Cactus Club (in the back venue room or outside patio, weather permitting). Each month a different business, community organization, collective, or artist chooses the book, the bookseller, and leads the discussion. We read fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on works by women, LGBTQ+, POC, and/or otherwise under-published groups. You don’t have to finish reading the book to attend. 18+ All book club meetings are free. No registration required. CBC is part of our ongoing Cactus+ programming.
