Mabuhay! SALIMBAL is an all-ages, open to the public short film screening event to be held in the afternoon of Sunday, August 23rd at Cactus Club in Milwaukee, WI.
The word salimbal refers to a golden ship of Filipino mythology, reported to carry its entire tribe. As such, this event aims to be a space that fosters Asian-American creative community within the greater Milwaukee area, and explore the ways that Asian-Americans document, highlight, and pay tribute to their culture and heritage. This screening event coincides with the 130th anniversary of the beginning of the Philippine Revolution, eventually leading to the country’s liberation from Spain.
Join this daytime community event for storytelling activities, community grounding exercises, shared cuisine, and a selection of Asian American short films! The day will be guided by event organizer Lee Judilla: a first-generation, queer Filipino-American multimedia artist based in Milwaukee, WI.
