Minnesota’s Ray Gun Youth weave various strains of psychedelic rock, emo, punk, and even folk into dynamic songs about what it means to listen to your body and soul. With lyrics touching on singer Jake Frazier’s experiences starting life anew after a cult upbringing, the group’s self-released debut LP Second Estate swings from fuzzed-out powerful catharsis to gentle reflections, bringing to mind groups such as Pile, Hotline TNT, Microwave, and Hooveriii.
