Bell Witch

(Seattle, WI)

Seattle based duo BELL WITCH have, since their inception in 2010, carved a unique niche in the metal scene. Utilizing only bass, drums and vocals to create a mournful, melodic take on minimalism and an ethereal but crushing approach to magnitude.

Their most recent LP, Four Phantoms (2015, Profound Lore) was recorded by Billy Anderson and is their most focused, structured and melancholy release to date. Four epic sentiments of funeral / death doom are orchestrated into arias of the four titular ghosts.

Wrekmeister Harmonies

(Chicago, IL)

Wrekmeister Harmonies, led by musician and composer JR Robinson, is an experimental music collective based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Named after the Béla Tarr movie Werckmeister Harmonies, it combines elements of drone music, serialism, post-rock, and heavy metal. Wrekmeister Harmonies typically performs a single composition, often almost an hour in length, beginning with a slow build, shifting into a cathartic middle section, concluding with either a peaceful or disquieting resolution.

Northless

(Milwaukee, WI)

Few artists can claim to have both received coverage from NPR as well had a sandwich named after them at Kuma’s Corner, but such is the case with Milwaukee’s Northless. Since their inception in 2007, the band have honed their brand of patiently crushing metal, coming together initially as a two-piece before appropriately doubling the band’s membership in 2009. Since then, the band has released two stellar full lengths via Gilead Media / Halo of Flies Records (2011’s Clandestine Abuse and 2013’s World Keeps Sinking) as well as a handful of splits and EPs, further developing their song craft and musicianship.
