Join us September 6th at 5:30pm for Cactus Book Club. Our featured organization, the Riverwest Co-op, will be leading the discussion on Grocery Story: the Promise of Food Co-ops in the Age of Grocery Giants by Jon Steinman. “Through penetrating analysis and inspiring stories and examples of American and Canadian food co-ops, Grocery Story makes a compelling case for the transformation of the grocery store aisles as the emerging frontier in the local and good food movements.”

The beloved Riverwest Co-op is a community-based, member-owned, and volunteer-run organization, which goes beyond being simply a grocery and cafe. In the heart (or stomach?) of Riverwest, the Co-op has been a neighborhood staple for more than 20 years. Swing by the store (or check out www.riverwestcoop.org) to buy groceries, learn more about their upcoming events, how to become a member-owner, sign up to volunteer, or buy one of their “Food for People, Not for Profit” tshirts.

Recommended bookseller: Woodland Patterns (another Riverwest treasure)

Cactus Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30 at Cactus Club (in the back venue room or outside patio, weather permitting). Each month a different business, community organization, collective, or artist chooses the book and leads the discussion. We read fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on works by women, LGBTQ+, POC, and/or otherwise under-published groups. You don’t have to finish reading the book to attend. 18+. All book club meetings are free. No registration required
