Join us Wednesday, November 1st at 5:30 for Cactus Book Club. This month’s CBC will be led by Food Not Bombs – Milwaukee. We’re reading  Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next) by Dean Spade. “As governments fail to respond to—or actively engineer—each crisis, ordinary people are finding bold and innovative ways to share resources and support vulnerable members of their communities. This survival work, when done alongside social movement demands for transformative change, is called mutual aid…Mutual aid isn’t charity: it’s a form of organizing where people get to create new systems of care and generosity so we can survive”.

Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer global movement that recovers food that would otherwise be discarded, and shares free vegan and vegetarian meals with the hungry in over 1,000 cities in 65 countries in protest to war, poverty, and destruction of the environment. The FNB- Milwaukee chapter distributes bags of groceries on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Join us at CBC or give their FB page a follow to learn how to get involved!

Cactus Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30 at Cactus Club (in the back venue room or outside patio, weather permitting). Each month a different business, community organization, collective, or artist chooses the book and leads the discussion. We read fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on works by women, LGBTQ+, POC, and/or otherwise under-published groups. You don’t have to finish reading the book to attend. 18+. All book club meetings are free. No registration required.
