Splitting time between Brooklyn and Nashville, James Wilson aka Paisley Fields updates traditional country music through the heartfelt lens of his singular queer experience. Honing his craft both with his own songwriting and as a touring member of trailblazing queer country outfit Lavender Country, his stories convey universal themes of love, loneliness, pain, and yes – humor. Lyrid is the new solo project from Milwaukee’s Elisabeth Gasparka (Warhola Cats, I Love Annette). Here she presents an introduction to her wistful, dreamy folk-pop sound and shares songs from her forthcoming EP alongside poignant visual meditations and field recordings.

Paisley Fields

(Brooklyn/Nashville)
Genre: Americana

Active since 2013, Paisley Fields is a singer, songwriter, and bandleader splitting time between Brooklyn, New York and Nashville, Tennessee. Fields’ writes country music. His songs are tender and authentic, but also pretty good with a joke. They’re mindful of tradition, but deeply informed by his singular background — as a teenage Midwestern church pianist, a Manhattan piano bar survivor, and a touring member of pioneering queer country outfit, Lavender Country. The stories are his, but the feeling they convey — love, loneliness, lust, and so on — are, hopefully, still universal.
