TicketsAmerica’s most debaucherous rapper, Rob Apollo, is championing his own brand of mischievous alt-rap for the digital age. Hailing from Detroit but raised by the internet, Apollo’s unique ability to bridge rap culture, internet humor, and inclusive politics has made him the torchbearer for progressive shenanigans. Sonically, Apollo’s tracks are usually upbeat with hard-knocking 808s, often combining Detroit-trap drum patterns with dancy synth melodies. In March 2024, Apollo’s provocative lyrics delivered him a #1 Charting TikTok song with his track “Seppuku,” a devious and head-banging anthem about how broke people should jump off a bridge as penance. This viral moment exemplifies the captivating nature of Apollo’s music; by combining outlandish references with hard bars and beats, Rob Apollo tracks have an addictive quality that leaves you wondering: ‘did he really just say that?’.
Though Apollo’s songwriting is inarguably full of shenanigans, socially radical themes and deeply vulnerable storytelling keeps his music specific, inclusive, and reflective of his diverse background. Influenced equally by his Detroit upbringing, art-school education, Twitter shitposting, and leftist politics, Apollo seamlessly weaves different cultures. He takes influence from contemporary boundary-pushing alt-rap artists such as Tyler the Creator, Danny Brown, Rico Nasty, and Zack Fox. Known for his self-directed videos as much as his music, Apollo’s unique visuals combine with his chaotic music to build a complete audio-visual world around the theme of “contemporary debauchery.”
