Led by Milwaukee Poet Antonio Vargas-Nieto, this generative poetry workshop is open to writers of all experience levels. We’ll explore surrealist poets from around the world—Joyce Mansour, Will Alexander, Chika Sagawa, Frank O’Hara, and more—and use their techniques to unlock the creative potential of the trivial, the personal, and the deeply specific.

Through group readings, discussion, and timed freewrites, we’ll tap into automatic writing and explore how surrealism transforms the everyday into something unexpected and expansive.
