This is the 14th official Ableton User Group Milwaukee meetup.

This is an all ages event.

2:30ish – Organizers and performers setup the backroom with the club’s sound engineer.

3:00 – EVENT START

Check in and sign-up for “Show Your Project” and make sure to scoop a name tag. Before starting the demos, attendees will have a chance to introduce themselves, talk briefly about their musical background, and how long they’ve been using Live.

3:00 – 3:45 – Sound Design in Ableton 11 – Sonic branding to Meditation
Presenter: Lorna Dune

Lorna will be covering Sound Design concepts and tools applied for working in sonic branding and meditation sound healing. There will be a nod to the early history of sound design as well as a chance to explore present day trends and imagine future possibilities of sound design for UI/UX, VR, immersive audio and more.

4:00 – 4:45 – Mixing Techniques and Workflow in Ableton 11
Presenter: Keith Sweaty

Keith will be sharing previews of his unreleased works in Live while diving into practical applications of Ableton Live tools for mixing, and lending additional insights on his career and workflow.

5:00 – 5:45 – Making Endless Cassette Loops with Ableton 11 an Analog Cassette 4-Track
Presenter: Tron Jovi (aka Martin Defatte)

During the height of the pandemic, Tron (aka Marty), researched how to create and use looping cassettes with 4 tracks. He will demonstrate how to prepare audio in Ableton to make tape loops to create drones, chords, drum beats for resampling.

Group members may present their Live projects and get feedback from the group. If there are a lot of presenters, we should keep these short. Make sure to sign-up when you get to the meet-up, and we will go in that order until we run out of names, or until the club kicks us out of the back room.

6:30 – ? – Drinks and socializing for those who want to stick around

If anyone needs to eat before or after the event, check out Palomino (next door). They can cater to meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. If we’re lucky, perhaps Cactus will have a food truck.

Show Lineup

Lorna Dune

(Milwaukee)
Genre: Electronic

Praised by VICE Magazine as the “mistress of new music” and named as one of their Artists to Watch by The Fader, Lorna Dune has been turning heads since her foray into the world of electronic music production.

As an experimental keyboardist & music producer, she is the founding member of Victoire, an “all-star, all-female quintet” (Time Out NY) with composer Missy Mazzoli; collaborates with electro-punk feminist icon JD Samson of MEN; has shared the stage with artists Steve Reich, Meredith Monk, the Philip Glass Ensemble, commissioned for Terry Riley’s 80th birthday, as well as remixed Max Richter, Caroline Shaw, Album Leaf and more.

A passionate educator of music technology and advocate for the creation and performance of new music, Lorna has been sought after as a presenter, collaborator, performer, creator and curator. She became an Ableton Certified Trainer in Jan 2020.

Keith Sweaty

(Milwaukee, WI)

Keith Milgaten aka Keith Sweaty is an electronic music producer/ film music composer / remix artist originally hailing from Las Vegas, NV, currently based in Milwaukee, WI. He has released tracks through labels such as Merge, Sub Pop, Manimal Vinyl, Temporary Residence, Empire, Relapse, Jag Jaguwar, Barsuk, Cleopatra, and the Lorna Dune co-founded digital imprint Formed By Glaciers.

Keith’s remixes have been featured on various deluxe editions alongside prominent indie/ electronic artists like Future Islands, Daedelus, Matmos, Dntel, Soul Clap, Wild Nothing, and more. Keith has been producing music for two decades, and touring professionally as a performer and live audio engineer for thirteen years. Since the age of twenty-three, Keith has gotten to tour the world with bands like Dirty Projectors, Lucius, The Album Leaf, Saint Motel, Shook Twins, Des Rocs and Small Black.

Tron Jovi

(Milwaukee, WI)
Genre: Electronic

Tron Jovi is the studio project of Milwaukee-based musician and producer, Martin Defatte. During an extended hiatus from playing in punk and hardcore bands, Defatte became enthralled with the work of Prefuse 73, Madlib and MF Doom. Over the next 15+ years, Defatte honed his own production and engineering skills, learning the basics of sequencers, samplers and software based production workstations. After assembling a home recording studio, to capture his friends’ music, he revisited his past as an electronic producer.
