Join us on Wed March 1st at 5:30pm. The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) will lead the conversation on Animals Make Us Human: Creating the Best Life for Animals by Temple Grandin & Catherine Johnson. In her previous book, Grandin “drew on her own experience with autism as well as her distinguished career as an animal scientist to deliver insights into how animals think, act, & feel. Now she builds on those insights to show us how to give our animals the best & happiest life – on their terms, not ours”.

WHS is widely known for helping facilitate pet adoptions through their 5 shelters in Milwaukee, Saukville, Racine, Green Bay, & Sturgeon Bay but WHS also offers affordable pet spay/neuter services, dog training classes, hosts youth/adult education programs, & houses a pet food bank for families during tough financial situations. The Mke location is also home to the WHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, which rescues, rehabs, then releases over 5,000 wild animals annually. Cactus Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7:30 in the back room at Cactus Club. Each month a different business, community organization, collective, or band chooses the book and leads the discussion. We read fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on works by women, LGBTQ+, POC, and/or otherwise under-published groups. You don’t have to finish reading the book to attend. All book club meetings are free. No registration required. Masks are optional but encouraged. 18+.
