Joshua Powell

(Indianapolis, IN )

Joshua Powell is a songwriter from Indianapolis, IN, who handcrafts a strangely literate brand of psychedelic indie rock that manages to be simultaneously socially conscious and spiritually turbulent. With over 750 shows in over 40 states under his anachronistic studded belt, Powell blends the narrative richness of American folk with a heavy dose of hallucinatory swirl and a ghost note of ‘00s-vintage bedroom indie, all highlighted in ethereal falsetto by his purposeful, kaleidoscopic poetry.

In 2017, Spotify has featured songs from his record Alyosha on their official “Indie Acoustic” and “Writer’s Playlist.” Joshua also had songs placed in Freeform’s “The Fosters,” ABC’s “Blood and Oil,” and in regular rotation on Starbucks’ official national store playlist. The band has recorded sessions with Audiotree and Daytrotter, and been covered in the Huffington Post and No Depression which described Powell’s music as, “a crossroads of revival-in-the-river folk mysticism and barroom-ready guitar-driven rock with conscience and existential wonder.”

Joshua and the band have performed at Mile of Music (WI), Audiofeed (IL), Nebraska Folk and Roots Festival (NE), Midpoint Music Fest (OH), Starry Night (IN), Virginia Ave Music Fest (IN), Lincoln Calling (NE), and Whiskey War Fest (MO) on bills alongside Shawn James, As Cities Burn, The Cactus Blossoms, Mike Mains, JEFF the Brotherhood, Lydia Loveless, and Diane Coffee. In 2018, Joshua is set to release his new LP, PSYCHO/TROPIC.

Endless Era

(Milwaukee)

Milwaukee’s own, Endless Era, brings an indie-pop sound reminiscent of Walk The Moon, The 1975, and LANY. Combining electronic drums, synthesisers, and electric guitar, Endless Era’s music is full of pop sensibilities gushing with 80’s nostalgia. Their music cuts to the heart of life with songs about love, loss, and redemption. This is music to give hope to a new generation.

newvices

(Milwaukee)
Genre: Indie Rock
Their name might be newvices (that’s one word, lowercase n), but their sound is purely virtuous. Combining both funk and beach tunes, they play with multiple different genres. Featuring Rod Wortham on guitar, Marco Jaimez on vocals, Josh Ehlke on drums, and Matt Sherman on bass- newvices creates a lingering sound that gets listeners grooving, thinking, and feeling; with the ultimate goal of bringing solace to a hectic world.
As both individual artists and a collective, a shared carpe diem philosophy encourages ownership of the project, even as their tone changes from whimsical to haunting. Constantly refining and redefining their music, Oh Hush! produced their sophomore EP, “The Truth of Self.” Together, collected thoughts and feelings set the structure of each tune, all in the name of balance. Such collaboration resulted in their self-titled debut EP, being written in just a week.
Coming from a place of peace, newvices hopes fans find that solace, too. They’ve built a loyal following in Milwaukee’s rapidly evolving music scene. Calling Brew City home brings access to multi-talented artists, multinational venues, and DIY and Sofar scenes, laying the foundation for quick success. Yet performances at venues, both large and small, while supporting other local artists show a unique consciousness to their art and goals. Notable gigs include Summerfest, Sofar Sounds, and countless sold-out shows at theaters, bars, and concert halls.
