No one’s more fun in the post (or present) apocalypse than Tea Eater. Fronted by Tarra Thiessen of Gustaf and Sharkmuffin, the New York City-based art punk band’s made significant waves with frenetic performances, surf-rock-on-Neptune grooves and sucker punch tracks about hating the DMV.
Their debut LP Obsession, produced and mixed by Drew Vandenberg (Bambara/Faye Webster/Of Montreal) and released by A Diamond Heart Production/La Fam Recordings in October 2023 showcases the whirring power of their sound, inviting you to shed your baggage and transmute your neurosis into something worth dancing about.
Tea Eater have made a name in the Brooklyn music scene & beyond with their energetic shows & DIY drive. Large Print’s energetic, dynamic, and at times scrappy songwriting; along with production stylings inspired by groups such as Swirlies, Duster, and Sonic Youth give the group an ever changing sound made for active listening. Formed in early 2018, Large Print lives by the goal of continued collaboration, and hands-on production.
Large Print has been working tirelessly since 2019 to independently write, record, and share demo material. During 2020 they released a series of short songs and videos every week of the year via Instagram. The upcoming tape release of their double EP “In the Clouds” and “In the Dark” represents the culmination of that work with fully fleshed out versions of songs along with previously unreleased material.
Blacktop is a Milwaukee-based writing and recording project helmed by multi-instrumentalist and producer, Austin Wood. The project incorporates a DIY- and analog-based approach to music creation, embracing the creative limitations and hands-on experience of recording to tape. Resting gently between the genres of folk, surf rock, and dream pop, the music of Blacktop is adorned with soft-spoken vocals, washed-out guitars, and acoustic percussion/rhythmic elements. The project draws from a large pool of sonic influence, ranging from Ethiopian jazz and Latin rhythms of the 1960-70s to contemporary artists such as Khruangbin, Good Morning, Loving, and Sam Evian. The project’s inspirational core is rooted in spiritual and zen philosophies of presence, mindfulness, and impermanence, from which the project often draws lyrical inspiration.
Originally starting as a solo project of Wood, Blacktop has grown to include Jordan Taylor, Jacob Olson of Hyer, and Jacob Slade, both in the studio and on stage. Blacktop’s first full-length release, “Gardening is a Practice, Not an Idea”, was released independently in September 2023 with a deluxe re-release through Nice Guys Records on February 16, 2024.
