Sweet dissonance sneaks into synaptic gaps to be picked up by receptors, seeping across a microscopic membrane with minions of molecules, transmitting the charge in towards central command (of which there are many billions), all cradled in a sweeping warmth thick with compassion and kick drums and aimed straight at the heart.

Transport hits home for the 20th time, consistent like the beat in your chest. The formula is no secret: psychedelic sound, grinning freaks, dark dancing, and excellent music. After a score of steps, they’ve danced themselves in bumpy circles right back around, just inside of where they started. Sound and movement in the darkness. Transport celebrates, and the dance floor beckons.

1130-1: fluidtranquility (a.k.a. KAYA) vibrates eastward, weaving the sweet sounds of summer with the tension of its twilight to discover a new kind of depth. It glitters with mystery and potential, promising more, MORE. Melodic, hypnotic, soulful, and groovy – this is techno for closed eyes and deep freaking.

Opening & Closing: Language Models spins out essential rhythms to dance us into those corners of the heart that we know about, that we’ve felt but never investigated because they’re pretty odd.

Visuals: Honeyboy reassembles our visual paradigm throughout the night with homespun mischief, color, lovely magic, and pleasantly nefarious intent.

Show Lineup

fluidtranquility

(Minneapolis)
Genre: DJ, House, Techno

KAYA (a.k.a. fluidtranquility) is a Minneapolis-based techno DJ and producer focused on intentionally deep listening and focused social dance experiences, driven by the transformative power of a well-tuned dance floor.

Sharing lineups with global figures like Akua, Shaun J Wright, RROSE, Wata Igarashi, and Minneapolis hometown legends Dustin Zahn and DVS1, he has solidified himself as a torchbearer for the next generation of Minneapolis techno.

His sets traverse remote frontiers, deep chasms, cerebral fissures, and austere yet soulful atmospheres, forming organic sonic symbioses with electronic material track by track.

Language Models

(Milwaukee)
Genre: DJ

Lost track of how many sweaty years in hypnotic underground black boxes have culminated in a thriving relationship with vinyl turntables. Fluent in house & techno and progressive & disco, and open to anything: all music is dance music.

Language Models hosts Open Decks, a Cactus+ Program that makes professional DJ equipment available with guidance to both aspiring and practicing DJs. Open Decks occurs twice each month: the 1st Saturday with digital formats, and the 3rd Saturday with vinyl.

Language Models also hosts Transport, Cactus Club’s own late-night dance party series that focuses on the psychedelic sounds of Midwest house and techno, classic and cutting edge. Transport brings DJs from throughout the region to share the the variety of this rich tradition on the Cactus dance floor.

Language Models is optimistically curious about the political potential of dance music events. If you’re curious about just how curious, feel free to check out the dissertation.
